Summer 1994

Sand is a pain in the ass. The worst mixture in the world is sand and gear oil. The worst gas mileage I ever got was driving around in the sand. I found all this out at the yearly Shore Patrol beach cleanup at Ocean Shores in September. A few donuts in the sand was not really worth getting sand everywhere, especially on the outside of my transmission and transfer case which leaked gear oil a little. I was trying to clean off this hellish mixture for months afterwards. Actually, it wasn't that bad going down there but driving around on the flat beach got old real fast. I think next time I will just walk the beach or ride with someone else. Maybe dunes would be more fun.
