Winter 1997-1998

6/16/75 to 6/18/75
476 miles

On June 16th we took the ferry from Orcas Island to Sidney, British Columbia. No problem until we went through the ferry terminal and "waffled" the overhang on the customs booth. No one noticed so we just kept going. It was a sorry sight hanging all askew!

We drove to Port Alberni area and pulled into Tall Timbers Camp Ground. It was really lovely there. The next day we spent sight seeing the area west of Tall Timbers... Pacific Rim National Park, Ucluelet and Torfino. Ucluelet was the western end of the Trans Canada Highway. Very interesting.

On the way back we really enjoyed sightseeing again. We did some shopping in Victoria and then went out to Butchard Gardens. Outstanding!

Now the ferry again. This time it was a challenge. Eddie was told that he had to back on, down a steep ramp and keep close to the side of the ferry. He did a great job and the attendant told him that he should get a free ride. It was a nice, interesting day and we made it back to Orcas in good shape.
