Sometime in February 2001, while surfing around the net, I came upon Rob Malda's MAME cabinet project.
Shortly, it dawned on me just what this MAME stuff was all about. I could play all those cool 80's arcade games which I plugged endless quarters into in my youth on my PC at home. The exact games!
After looking at more examples of other peoples projects as well as loading xmame on my Linux box and trying out some games it dawned on me that there were many different types of controls needed for each game. Most people would set up different control boards for their upright arcade cabinet and switch them if they wanted to play a different game.
I knew there had to be a better way, I just needed to think outside the "box".
